Manage emotions

Three Ways to Manage Your Emotions

Effectively dealing with difficult situations in both our personal and personal lives involves learning how to effectively deal with our emotional states. Frustration, anger, insecurity, fear and similar emotions can close our minds, stifle creativity and cause us to lose focus. It’s challenging, if not impossible, to remain objective and solve problems when you’re at a heightened emotional state.

There are a number of excellent techniques for managing your emotional states – here are three of the best:

1. Identify your own hot buttons

Write down the things that consistently push your buttons. Ask yourself why these things bother you so much. Sometimes just by identifying the source of your emotions you can start to beat them.

2. Focus on tangible issues

Make an effort to stay focused on solving the situation. When you feel an emotional statement coming on, like “who the heck does he think he is, anyway?” try and push it to the back of your mind. It’s counterproductive.

3. Create a ranking system

A lot of times we find ourselves getting upset about things that don’t really warrant the effort. Ask yourself, on a scale of 1-10, how critical is this to my life?
