How to stand out at work

How to Get Noticed at Work

If you work in a large organization, you can sometimes feel like a tiny, invisible piece of a gigantic puzzle. What does it take to get noticed if you’re hoping for career advancement, or even just a little recognition? Here are 5 rules of getting noticed:

Be good

Quality leads to quantity. When you’re consistently good at what you do, people eventually take notice. Quality is also an important foundation for when you do get noticed. The LAST thing you want is to raise your profile when you’re doing a poor or mediocre job!

Get involved

Sit on committees, play on the company softball team, organize the blood donor drive, etc. Find something that you will enjoy that gets you involved in your workplace. You’ll meet new people, raise your profile and expand your network.

Look for solutions

There are lots of people out there who love to identify problems. They’re really not a lot of fun to be around. Be the person people can turn to for positive solutions and ideas. That makes you a ‘go-to’ person instead of a ‘run-away-from’ person.

Take action

Action is louder than words.  Action- takers are always more successful.

Be likeable

No matter how good you are, if you don’t make an effort to get along with people, you will be hard pressed to get people to champion you. Sure, you might still get noticed if you’re unpleasant to people, but it might not be the kind of recognition you were looking for!
